This juried event features nearly a 100 artists selected from across the country. Paintings, photography, drawings, prints, sculptures, mixed media pieces and more will be on display and available for purchase.

The festival also includes live music on both days as well as many fun, educational family friendly fun activities and a variety of food choices. Children are invited to participate in special art and craft activities at no extra charge.

The Museum is open during Festival hours.

Festival admission is $8 and includes general admission to the Bruce Museum.

Renee Kahn, noted artist and architectural historian, will be leading a tour of the downtown Stamford National Register Historic District. Participants are invited to return to the sites to photograph, sketch or paint. Resulting artwork may be submitted for an upcoming exhibit entitled Facades, opening in the Ferguson Library gallery on January 7th, 2011.

Mad Hatter Day is uncommon nonsense: the nonsense we usually have to pretend is sane can be called madness for one day in the year; the superficially crazy things that really make sense can be called sane on Mad Hatter Day. Basically, it's a day for silliness, like the silliness that abounds as Alice joins the Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse for tea.

Italian Language Classes for Beginners

Wednesdays starting October 6th, 7:30 PM

Want to learn Italian but never had a chance? Going to Italy soon?

A weekly series of four conversational Italian classes will be offered at the Black Rock Branch Library starting on Wednesday October 6th. Classes will run from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

The classes will be conducted by Black Rock’s own Rob Foley, who has come up with his own material and method for quick learning.

Celebrate Stamp Collecting . . .

National Stamp Collecting Month

Since 1981 the U.S. Postal Service has designated the month of October as National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM). Developed to introduce children ages 8-12 to this popular and educational hobby, the NSCM program is also intended to raise awareness about the recreational benefits of stamp collecting among all age groups.

Stamp collecting can be a lifetime hobby. It’s fun and educational for all ages, and it’s easy to start your own collection without a big investment.

On July 16, 2010 the U.S. Postal Service celebrated five iconic American newspaper comic strips with their dedication of the Sunday Funnies postage stamps.

The 44-cent first-class commemorative stamps honor Archie, Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace, Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.

Of course, we are very happy to celebrate with the Beetle Bailey Stamp. We certainly hope it finds a home in your stamp collection too.

Be sure to visit the National Stamp Museum and/or the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History - you might just discover why so many folks have a passion for stamp collecting.
