UBS Parade
Spectacular

Join in the family-friendly fun! Bring your family and friends to one of the largest events of its kind in the country (Last year it drew over 100,000 people, not only Stamford residents, but also, spectators from the surrounding region and even nearby states).

On Sunday at noon, the 17th annual UBS Parade Spectacular, one of the country's largest balloon parade, kicks off in downtown Stamford, CT. There will be 18 giant helium balloons: Beetle Bailey, Big Bird, Billy Blazes, Bob the Builder, The Cat in the Hat, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Fred Flintstone (new this year), Kermit the Frog, Teenage Mutant Turtle Leonardo, Mr. Potato Head, Odie, Oscar the Grouch, Paddington Bear, Popeye, Scooby Doo (new this year), Super Grover, and Underdog.

Don’t miss Grand Marshal, New York Knicks Legend, John Starks and the Master of Ceremonies, Alan Kalter from the Late Show with David Letterman. Award winning marching bands will add to the excitement of the day. The Westhill and Stamford High School marching bands will march along with bands including Harrison, Norwalk, Trumbull, Brentwood, Uniondale High Schools and the NYPD Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band - plus other marching bands from all over Connecticut, New York and Guatemala.

The parade route starts on Summer Street at Hoyt and ends on Atlantic Street.

The first presentation in the series is Donizetti’s Don Pasquale starring John Del Carlo in the title role and Anna Netrebko in this opera buffa (comic opera).

The Playhouse’s opera season will run through May 2011.

Chamber Opera Performance

Laurence Gilgore, General Director and Principal Conductor of the Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra, will present Greenwich Library's first exploration into the magnificent world of opera.

The program is designed to enlighten the aficionado as well as the curious beginner. Maestro Gilgore's insights, historical examples, select film clips, and talented guest performers will present opera as a truly inspirational and timeless art form.

Plan to experience, this first, in a possible series of Opera Box events to be held here at Greenwich Library.
