Today is the birthday of Bil Keane (born October 5, 1922) is an American cartoonist best known for his work on the long-running newspaper comic The Family Circus, which began its run in 1960 and continues in syndication.Bil Keane was the president of the National Cartoonists Society from 1981-1983 and was the emcee of the NCS annual awards banquet for 16 years.

Happy Birthday Salute to Bob Thaves!
Today is the birthday of Robert Thaves (October 5, 1924 – August 1, 2006), cartoonist. He is best remembered as Bob Thaves the creator of the comic strip, Frank And Ernest, which began in 1972.Bob Thaves was the recipient of several awards for his work, including the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Panel Cartoon Award in 1983, 1984, and 1986, the Free Press Association's Mencken Award for the Best Cartoon in 1985, and the "Punster of The Year Award" in 1990.
Bob Thaves died on August 1, 2006 and since then his son Tom Thaves has taken over production of the strip.
