Happy Birthday Mort!!!

Today is the birthday of our favorite comic artist, Addison Morton Walker (born September 3, 1923). He is best known as Mort Walker, the creator of the newspaper comic strips Beetle Bailey in 1950, and Hi and Lois in 1954.

Mort Walker had his first comic published at the age of 11, and sold his first cartoon at 12. At 15 he worked as a comic-strip artist for a daily newspaper and by 18 he became chief editorial designer at Hall Bros. (Hallmark Cards).

"You learn just by trying and experimenting. By the time I was 14, I had my own comic strip in the Kansas City paper." - Mort Walker

"Laughter is the brush that sweeps away the cobwebs of your heart." - Mort Walker

"Seven days without laughter makes one weak." - Mort Walker

Here's to you, Mort, may your day be filled with joy and laughter.
