Another trivia smiler . . .

Comic strip trivia: Today is the birthday of Leon Harrison Gross (April 28, 1911 - March 13, 1999), writer, director and producer, best known by the alias of Lee Falk. He was the creator of the popular comic strip superheroes The Phantom and Mandrake the Magician, who at the height of their popularity secured him over a hundred million readers every day.

Posted in April 2008: "Enter The Phantom ... the first edition of the Australian-produced Phantom comics. Yours for sixpence in 1948, it's now worth $6000-plus. It's one of the more curious accidents of the collecting world that The Phantom comic books published by Frew, a small independent Sydney publisher, are now among the most sought after in the world. More so than equivalent editions produced in the United States." direct quote/image source (1)

Smiler trivia: Leon Harrison Gross thought that his comic strips would only last a few weeks; however, he wrote them for more than six decades until death claimed Lee Falk.
